Undeserved and Unearned Comfort!
This week Paul Briggs fills the pulpit. Paul is the campus pastor working with international students at Purdue. You can find out more about Paul’s work with Salt and Light International at their website.
As we come to the 40th chapter of the book of Isaiah, with the help of the Spirit of God, we, the people of God, will see ourselves clearly in the mirror of Scripture. For we, like the people of Israel have repeatedly “fallen off the wagon” so-to-speak….disobeyed God (in more clear biblical language) and have disgraced our Creator/Owner.

Adoption Concert
Dear Church Family,
As most of you know, we are adopting a baby boy from Ethiopia! Thanks to everyone for all your prayers and encouragement through this long process. God has shown himself in amazing ways since we first applied back in October and we’ve learned so much through it already. Our dossier (fancy name for gobs of paperwork detailing EVERY area of your life) was finished and sent off to Ethiopia in March. At this point, we just wait, wait some more, and then wait a little longer for that wonderful call telling us who our little boy will be! We expect to have our referral sometime in August or September. Once that happens, we’ll have a court date and travel to Ethiopia to pick him up and bring him home.

2008 Summer Institutes are Coming!
With summer just around the corner, plans are being made to be sure to maximize the warmest season. Vacations will cause some to travel while the challenge of summer projects will captivate the attention of others. One thing that can be counted on is that everyone will find ways to enjoy the many activities that can’t happen any other time of the year. The same is true here at church.
Summer brings the opportunity to have our Adult Bible Fellowships take on a modified form called the Summer Institutes. These specially chosen classes allow for people to choose the topic (or teacher) that would benefit them the most in their Christian walk. This year classes will be offered every Sunday morning at 8:45 starting June 1st through August 10th. During the month of May you will have the opportunity to sign up for the class you want to attend. This will allow us to determine class size for room placement purposes. To help you in choosing the class that would be right for you, here is a list of what is being offered. Read More…

Vehicle for Intern
This summer, Mandy Kappe of Germany will be an Intern at Kossuth, working with Middle School, VBS, and Salt and Light Christian Fellowship. One of her needs during this time is transportation. We are looking for creative solutions to meet this need. Do you or does someone you know have a vehicle she could use from the end of May through August 21st? Please contact the church office if you can help.

Making Sure You Are In
Verse 23 of our passage today records the question that prompts Jesus to issue some of his clearest and most passionate teaching calling for certainty of commitment. The question, ‘Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?’ is a self-righteous, smug, arrogant one expecting the reply that matches with the questioners beliefs. The Jews and their leaders believed that all Jews were saved with a few exceptions of the really bad ones. Jesus reflected the insincerity of the question in his response when he taught that many, perhaps most, will not make it into the kingdom, a concept contrary to the popular religious perspective of the day.

One Changed Life at a Time
What evidences are there in your life and world that God’s kingdom work is advancing? How do you measure the impact or growth of God’s work of drawing together a people for his glory by his Son and for His Son Jesus? Jesus is asking and answering a similar question in our text in Luke this morning when he asked ‘What is the kingdom of God like?’ What can you compare the work of God to?
